As COVID-19 vaccinations continue to be administered, another COVID-19 variant has emerged and it’s important to know how to protect yourself.

Dallas County Health Department Public Information Officer Ann Cochran says another variant known as the Delta variant has begun circulating amongst the population. Cochran says mitigation efforts remain the same.

“Nothing different as far as mitigation the problem that may present itself is that with relaxing of restrictions for persons who are fully vaccinated those who are still unvaccinated could spread this new variant.”

Cochran tells Raccoon Valley Radio there isn’t that much which is different with the Delta variant compared to the other variants that have spread. Cochran gives the reminder of safety as people prepare for the Fourth of July holiday.

“Just be very cautious if you are unvaccinated about being a spreader and picking up something from others.”

Cochran says health officials are guardedly saying the Delta variant is similar to other variants which have already spread.
