As the Perry Farmer’s Market continues on throughout the season, there are alternative ways people can purchase items from the market.

Perry Chamber Director Lynsi Pasutti says there are multiple ways people can purchase local produce from the farmer’s market. Pasutti says one way can be through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

“If people are eligible for SNAP benefits, usually they would only be able to use those at the stores for food but we are recently certified to accept SNAP benefits at the farmer’s market. That’s new this year and that’s really exciting that we can provide that to our community. It’s not 100-percent of our customers that are coming through but it is targeting an area where there is need and so it’s nice to be able to provide that.”

Pasutti tells Raccoon Valley Radio customers can use their SNAP cards and they will get tokens for the farmer’s market as well as double up food bucks. Pasutti says there are also other programs including the Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program and the Perry Food Pantry helping its customers as well.

“It just goes to show lots of community support and working together to help our community out with locally grown produce and even baked goods as well.”

The Perry Farmer’s Market runs every Thursday from 4-7 p.m. in Josh Davis Plaza until September 30th.
