Heart of Iowa Activities Conference leader West Marshall (State Center) was upset by Greene County in high school baseball at Allensworth Field in Jefferson last night. The 8-4 victory was the second straight for Coach Matt Paulsen’s Rams, who improved to 4-12 overall and 3-7 in the conference. The Trojans fell to 17-6, 8-2. The two teams split their two game conference series and the Greene County victory dropped the Trojans out of first place by themselves in the Heart of Iowa.
Joe Carey tossed a complete game three-hitter with two walks and five hit batters. Only two of the runs scored by WM were earned. WM entered the game with 16 home runs and a .304 team batting average, but finished with no homers and just three hits.
Greene County entered the game with a .189 team BA and no homers. Senior Peyton Kinsey hit the first round-tripper of his varsity career and the first for the Rams this season. Max Riley had a double and two singles, with a double and single by Bryce Stalder and two singles from Jack Hansen. Cameron Miller and Justin Stream both doubled. Miller had two runs batted in and Stream, Stalder, Riley, and Kinsey drove in one run apiece. Greene County scored two runs on a pair of delayed double steals.
The Rams have tonight off and a road game at Perry is on the schedule for Friday night.
