The City of Perry is anticipating receiving money from the Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Fund, and plans are underway on how to spend those funds.

Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson says they are anticipating approximately $1 million from the federal government. Peterson explains the restrictions of how the money can be spent such as road and broadband infrastructure, among other things.

“What we’re probably looking at doing the most of is working on our sanitary sewer collection system. We have our reconstruction of the plant going on and we felt that investing those funds into our collection system would really give us a lot of bang for the buck.”

Peterson tells Raccoon Valley Radio the work could potentially include physical repairs along with lining of the sewer system. Peterson describes another potential project with replacing service lines.

“We are also kind of kicking around the concept of how we could set up a program to help people replace bad service lines from the house to our sanitary sewer main. Not sure if that would work out or how that could work out but that is something we are starting to explore as far as what the mechanics might be and maybe some of the parameters of that program.”

Peterson says there will be more information coming out at a later date.
