A Des Moines man was arrested Monday after a vehicle chase with Dallas County Sheriff’s Deputies. 

According to the sheriff’s office, 51-year-old Raymond Leo Steadman Jr. was arrested and charged with  Class D Felonies for second degree criminal mischief and  eluding, and simple misdemeanors for possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to stop and driving while license denied, suspended cancelled or revoked, as well as numerous traffic violations from an incident that occurred at approximately 5:06 p.m. Monday. 

Dallas County Chief Deputy Adam Infante says a deputy went to Bouton to arrest Steadman for warrants out of Polk County for a parole violation and second degree arson. Infante says a pursuit then allegedly took place in Bouton, which went into Perry. 

Infante tells Raccoon Valley Radio once Steadman stopped on 8th Street in Perry he allegedly exited the vehicle with a running chainsaw that he held to his neck which led to a brief standoff. The Perry Police Department arrived and then tased Steadman and took him into custody. 

Infante says no one was injured  from the incident but Steadman was taken to the Dallas County Hospital for a minor cut and other prior health concerns. Once he was treated and released, Steadman was booked into the Dallas County Jail where he is held with a $10,000 total bond amount.
