Plans are moving forward on the possibility of an indoor water park in Jefferson.
An indoor water park was first proposed as part of what’s known as the 3-Block Project. The details include a new child care facility, which the Greene County Early Learning Center is currently fundraising for; turning the former middle school into apartments, which finances are being sought for; while also adding a new playground equipment, an amphitheater, creating a green space and adding a new indoor water park near or attached to the existing Greene County Community Center.
Greene County Development Corporation Executive Director Ken Paxton told the GCDC Board last week that he met the largest indoor water park developer in the Midwest and visited Jefferson to discuss the 3-Block Project.
“He wanted to put together some concepts for us. Met with (Jefferson Parks and Rec Director) Denny (Hammen) and some of the people from the park and rec commission through the city and got their input. He toured the community center, he toured the pool we have outside, and got all the information he needed. He is now in the process of developing two concepts. We will then turn that into the park and rec group for their studying and their review.”
Paxton points out both concepts will have a lazy river, splash pad, and a tower with slides, with the biggest difference being one concept will have a three-lane training pool and the other a six-lane competitive pool. He adds the developer will also include cost estimates for each concept.
