Greene County lost 7-3 to Van Meter in the first round of Saturday’s baseball tournament in Des Moines hosted at Saydel High School. The host Eagles beat the Rams 10-2 in game two and Greene County enters a new week of play with a 2-12 record.
Coach Matt Paulsen reports the Rams scored single runs in the first, fourth, and seventh innings, while VM plated single runs in the first, second and third, two in the fourth, and two in the fifth. The Rams had seven hits and one error. The Bulldogs had no errors and six hits. Getting a single and double with two stolen bases was Bryce Stalder. Cameren Miller singled and had two runs batted in, with Max Riley, Kole Teeples, Braeden Roberts, and Jack Hansen also recording base hits. Joe Carey threw the first two innings with Teeples pitching the final four.
The game vs Saydel saw the Rams get four hits to 11 for the Eagles. Miller started pitching for the Rams and he took the loss. Blake Hammen and Max Riley pitched in relief. The hits for the Rams were all singles with two by Justin Stream and one each for Riley and Hansen.
The Rams meet PCM in Prairie City on Moday.
