Due to dry conditions, Greene County is under a burn ban.
Greene County Sheriff and Jefferson Fire Chief Jack Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio a county-wide burn ban is now in effect. He says a burn ban means no burning is allowed, with the exception of burning in a metal fire container and/or a burn barrel.
According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, Greene County is currently in a severe drought. According to the National Weather Service, for the entire month of June, Jefferson has seen 0.30-inches of precipitation. The burn ban will remain in effect until further notice.
