A program that hasn’t happened for several years is now underway with the Jefferson Public Library.

Library Director Jane Millard says there is an Adult Summer Reading Program that goes through August. She points out each month, participants can complete a reading challenge, along with completing a coloring page or a word search related to the monthly theme.

“So in June we’re going to read a book with a color in the title. In July, we’ll explore different cultures. The focus in August will be on a social issue or how acts of kindness can change our world.”

Millard explains this year’s theme of “Reading Colors Your World” as the main reason for bringing back the Summer Reading Program for the adults.

“When you think about reading coloring your world, our world is so diverse. So we want to explore that a little bit with the adults. We’re finding books on our shelves that have to do with other cultures. So we can learn about other cultures, about social issues that we’re dealing with at the time. So we’re starting out kind of fun and then we’re getting a little deeper into how reading can color your world a little different maybe than what you think.”

Additionally, the library is now open six days a week, with Monday-Thursday from 1-6pm, Friday from 1-5pm, and Saturday from 9am-1pm. No appointments necessary and masks are encouraged, but not required.
