The Greene County Medical Center generated over $18 million in 2020.
The report by the Iowa Hospital Association shows the medical center in Jefferson generated $14 million in its overall payroll with 267 non-contracted employees with over 97 positions. The employees also purchased goods and services locally, which generated another 127 jobs for a cumulative payroll impact of $18.6 million last year. Additionally, medical center employees spent just over $3 million on retail sales within the county and that resulted in $186,000 in state sales tax revenue.
In Iowa, the same study reported that hospitals directly employ over 76,000 people and also created over 67,000 jobs outside of the hospital sector.
