Greene County High School Activities Director Todd Gordon told Raccoon Valley Radio the future is bright for the boys’ soccer program. Just three seasons in, the Rams have had back-to-back Class 1A State Tournament appearances in 2019 and 2021 (there was no 2020 season due to the pandemic). Both times they lost to seven-time State Champion Regina Catholic of Iowa City. The team this year finished with a 14-7 record and they won five straight matches prior to the State Tournament.
Coach Gordon was asked about the future being bright. “It certainly is. We played a lot of freshmen and sophomores this year and they really did compete. I thought they really grew as the season went on, and it really showed in that Substate final. Just the resilience they showed and I’m talking about the whole team now, from the seniors and everybody on down. And then, you end the season where you want to end it- at the State Tournament.”
