It took a little while, but late last week the Greene County varsity softball and baseball teams both got into the win column for the first time this season. Both teams are off today, but will be in action tomorrow night with softball at Perry on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com, and baseball at Winterset.
Coach Tom Kennedy’s softball Rams won 18-6 in six innings by the 10-run rule late Friday in game two of a twin bill at State Center vs. West Marshall. They lost game one 8-3, and dropped both games Saturday in the Bondurant-Farrar Tournament, falling 11-1 to Alburnett, and 8-6 to Newman Catholic of Mason City. The Rams are 1-7 entering this week.
The baseball team is 1-6 after stopping their six game losing streak to start the season. The Rams won 7-6 in 11 innings over Algona at the Boone Tournament on Saturday. Ram pitchers combined to strike out the Bulldogs 18 times, and a bases loaded walk pushed across the winning run for Coach Matt Paulsen’s Rams in the bottom of inning number 11.
