A Guthrie County community was recently awarded a grant to improve its water infrastructure.

The Iowa Economic Development Authority awarded the City of Guthrie Center $500,000 Community Development Block Grant for a water main installation project. The grant is part of the IEDA’s support of community development, specifically for water and sewer improvements.

The city’s project was added by a $712,675 match and they were one of six communities that received a total of $2.2 million from IEDA. Of the 16 applications, grants were awarded based on the benefit of low to moderate income individuals, financial need, the project’s overall impact and commitment to local resources.
