As the 89th Iowa General Assembly is officially in the books, one lawmaker outlines important legislation from the session.
State Senator for District 10 Jake Chapman says there were multiple pieces of legislation from the session that Iowans will benefit from including ones that Chapman says may put Iowa students ahead of other states.
“Requiring schools to provide 100-percent in-person, allowing students to go back into school, I think has had a huge impact. It’s going to make sure that our students have the best education possible while other states are going to fall behind.”
Chapman tells Raccoon Valley Radio other pieces of legislation included allowing Iowans to carry firearms without a permit as well as eliminating the state’s inheritance tax that were among important bills, which Chapman says led to a good session.
“We did a huge lift, in fact I would say it’s probably one of the most productive legislative years I have ever been a part of.”
Chapman says other legislation included the Back the Blue bill, mental health reform and mask mandate reform.
