With a recent law signed by Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds banning mask mandates in certain situations, one lawmaker felt the law was appropriate.
State Senator for District 10 Jake Chapman says it was appropriate to pass legislation banning cities, counties and school districts from making wearing a mask a requirement.
“I think the theme for this legislative session has been freedom and allowing parents to make decisions for their children and I would say about a month ago we began to have some conversations in our caucus about the number of Iowans who felt like their rights were being violated particularly when it came to their children and being able to go to school without masks.”
Chapman tells Raccoon Valley Radio he felt it was important to put the power of healthcare decisions back in the hands of Iowans.
“We believe in freedom, we believe in liberty, we believe in personal responsibility and that really has been and is the theme of the 2021 legislative session.”
The law was officially signed by Governor Reynolds on May 20th.
