Community members and members of the American Legion Post Number 124 gathered on the Guthrie Center Courthouse lawn to honor fallen service members for Memorial Day Monday morning.
The ceremony served as a way to honor fallen service members as well as to dedicate the recently completed Guthrie County Veterans Memorial that sits on the courthouse lawn. There were speakers present as well as a twenty-one gun salute done by the legion members.
Also, the Adair-Casey-Guthrie Center High School band was on hand and played each military song for the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard. Also, members from the AC/GC High School Band honored fallen service members by playing Taps.
Memorial Day is held each year on the last Monday of May to commemorate all those past and present who have died while serving in the armed forces.
