With school officially let out, the Mary J. Barnett Memorial Library in Guthrie Center is getting prepared for its summer reading program.
Library Aid Cass Fronapfel says there are summer reading programs for every age group to get excited about. Fronapfel says the program for the younger children features coloring in a reading log.
“They have a little reading log with a seal on it and they color in a seal everytime they read a book or mom reads them a book at bedtime, and they bring it in, and they get to pick out a little prize, and when they’ve filled out their tracker sheet they hand them in and we keep them until the end of summer and the winner gets an Olaf snow cone maker to take home.”
Fronapfel tells Raccoon Valley Radio it’s important for younger children to remain engaged throughout the summer while they are away from school.
“We are trying to start a good solid reading base while they are nice and little so they really want to get that love of reading and to keep learning.”
The summer reading program with the Mary J. Barnett Memorial Library is set to begin June 4th and you can find more information and registration here.
