Thursday, May 27th

3:33am: A Traffic Stop at 220th and Mulberry Streets resulted in Grant Ostler of IN. being cited for, “Excessive Speed.”

11:18am: A Traffic Stop in the 1700 Block of North Grimmell Road resulted in Casey Johnston of Grand Junction being cited for, “Excessive Speed.”

11:31am: The Cobblestone Hotel spoke to an officer about a vehicle, which has been parked in the parking lot at 771 Wild Rose Lane for several weeks. The officer advised the motel of the registered owner’s name so they could contact them about the vehicle.

11:32am: A Traffic Stop in the 400 Block of West Central resulted in Avery Bardole of Jefferson being cited for, “Excessive Speed.”

12:44pm: A deputy requested assistance from an officer at the Jefferson Vet Clinic. A caller had located an injured dog in the ditch, but could not get near the animal. The deputy transported the dog to the Vet’s Office.

4:22pm: A DHS Case Worker has started a Sexual Assault Case and the officer is now assisting. The alleged event occurred in Jefferson in the short past and involved (2) young juvenile females.

8:18pm: Ola Jones requested a Welfare Check on a juvenile female in Jefferson. The officer made contact with the juvenile and determined she was fine.

10:13pm: Demedrious Lyons reported he could see something burning near 220 th and Mulberry Streets. The officer determined it was smoldering corn at the Landus Coop. Personnel are on scene 24 hours a day monitoring the fire.

10:56pm: A Traffic Stop at Elm and Clark Streets resulted in Lane Scwabe of Newton being cited for, “Improper use of Registration.”

11:45pm: A Traffic Stop at 220th and Grimmell Road resulted in Jared Williams of Carroll being cited for, “Excessive Speed.”

Friday, May 28th

10:34am: Rod Lawton reported seeing smoke coming from the Soy-Chlor plant, 1301 North Locust Street. The Officer investigated and found the source was the normal exhaust coming from the plant.

2:06pm: Leann Monaghan reported the possible fraudulent use of a credit card. The Officer investigated and found the charge to the card had been legitimately used by one of the account holders.

2:37pm: An Oly’s Corner employee reported a possible theft of fuel in the amount of $48.43. During the investigation, the Officer made contact with the vehicle’s driver. The driver reported the drive off was accidental and would return to Oly’s to pay the debt. Oly’s was advised of this.

3:54pm: An Officer assisted the Greene County Ambulance with a medical call in the 1000 block of East Lincoln Way

6:43pm: While on patrol, an Officer noticed a male in a running vehicle in the 1000 block of East Lincoln Way. The male appeared to be sleeping and the Officer stopped to check on his welfare. The male was identified as Michael Gibbs. While investigating, the Officer found Michael was overtired and not having a medical issue. Michael advised he would likely be finding a hotel room for the night to rest before continuing on his way.

7:12pm: A caller reported he was being blackmailed online by another party who claimed to have compromising images of them. The person claimed the images would be distributed unless money was sent. The Officer advised nothing could be done, but to block the subject on all social media accounts.

7:21pm: A Traffic Stop at East Lincoln Way and South Locust Street resulting in William Griffin of Rippy being cited for, “Operating a Non Registered Vehicle”

9:17pm: Jim North reported he was at the Webb House, 401 South Wilson Street. A minor female retuned to the Webb House after leaving. The female reported she had been involved in an argument with an adult family member who she suspected was intoxicated. During the course of this, the minor exited the car she was in with them and returned to the Webb House. An Officer responded and transported the minor female to the Greene County Law Enforcement Center. While at the LEC, several family members were contacted and the minor female was found a safe location to go to. The Officer is investigation the situation.

Saturday, May 29th

8:12am: Mary Jane Mayard reported she was to have had a package delivered to her apartment. The package did not arrive and Mary was told by the company the shipping address on the package had been incorrect. The Officer attempted to find the package for Mary and was unable to locate it. Mary was advised of this.

12:10pm: Polk County Dispatch contacted Greene County Dispatch in regards to a welfare check request on a male living in the 800 block of South Chestnut Street. The Officer checked and found the male was not present. The Greene County Sheriff Office later located the male who was working in his fields.

1:15pm: An Officer investigated a two-vehicle accident in the HyVee Parking Lot, 106 West Washington Street. A 2011 Dodge Nitro, operated by Sandra Burris of Scranton was westbound in the lot attempting to park. A 2012 Chevrolet Silverado was parked in the lot with the owner, Laureen Grow opening the driver side door. While parking the passenger side bumper of the Nitro contacted the Silverado’s driver side door. The Nitro received approximately $500 in damage. The Silverado received approximately $200 in damage.

1:59pm: An Officer investigated a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of West Clark Street and North Vine Street. A 2015 Chevrolet Trax, operated by Rochelle Mitchels of Rippy was eastbound on West Clark Street. A 2009 Chevrolet Impala, operated by Mary Jane Sorenson of Jefferson was traveling southbound on North Vine Street. The two-vehicle collided in the intersection The front bumper of the Trax sustained approximately $1500 in damage. The passenger side rear door of the Impala sustained approximately $4000 in damage.

10:21pm: Emily Hayes reported hearing a person screaming “help me” somewhere in the 600 block of West Adams Street. The Officer patrolled the area. The Officer did not hear the screaming or discover a possible source.

Sunday, May 30th

12:00am: A Traffic Stop near the intersection of West Central Ave and North Grimmell Rd resulted in Allyn Case of Jefferson being cited for “Excessive Speed”

12:15am: A Traffic Stop near the intersection of West Central Ave. and North Grimmell

Road resulted in Carol Love of Paton being cited for Excessive Speed”

10:46am: Carolyn Spaulding reported a neighbor burning trash at 100 East Central Street.

The Officer investigated and found nothing being burned in violation of the City Code.

9:30pm: A Traffic Stop near the intersection of South Elm Street and Bracket Street resulted in Gary Pruter of Bayard being issued a Written Warning for Failure to Obey Stop Sign. During the course of the stop the Officer asked for consent to search the vehicle. This was granted and a suspected drug related item was located. The item was taken to the Greene County LEC. The Officer is investigating.

10:12pm: Kaleb Silbaugh reported two vehicles being driven carelessly on North Cedar

Street southbound. He reported one of the vehicle’s appeared to be chasing the other. The Officer was able to locate one of the two suspect vehicles near the intersection of East Russell and South Grimmell Rd. The Officer preformed a traffic stop on the vehicle and spoke with the male juvenile driver. He reported an unknown vehicle had been chasing him and his poor driving was due to his fear. The juvenile was issued a verbal warning for failure to obey a stop sign and the stop was ended. The other vehicle involved was not identified. 

11:56pm: While on patrol an Officer located three vehicles stopped in the 200 block of East State Street. The occupants of the vehicle’s appeared to be having a verbal argument and the Officer stopped to investigate. The Officer was told two of the vehicles had been involved in a disagreement over the way they were driving. The vehicle’s stopped in the 200 block of East State Street, joined soon by the third vehicle operated by the parents of one of the vehicle’s juvenile operators. After speaking with the three driver’s two were allowed to leave. The third driver, Joshua Solano of Guthrie Center showed signs of possible impairment. A separate Office arrived and preformed tests to determine if he was impaired. Joshua passed these tests. The Officer asked Joshua for consent to search the vehicle, this was granted. A suspected illegal controlled substance was located during this search and collected into evidence. The Officer is investigating, further action is pending chemical testing of the substance.
