A Perry man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for an incident that occurred in March of last year. 

According to court documents, 32-year-old, Michael Jason Godwin was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty for the Class C Felony charge of willful injury- causing serious injury after an incident that occurred in Perry last year involving Godwin assaulting the victim with a metal jack handle. 

Court documents show that Godwin was also originally charged with a Class B Felony for attempted murder, but it  was dismissed. Also, a no contact order with the victim was extended for five years until 2025.
