The Perry City Council approved the sale of unused and outdated equipment at a special meeting Wednesday.
Additionally, the Council approved the repeal and replacement of the Code of Ordinance Chapter 125 relating to fireworks. Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn said the change comes with officers being able to cite a municipal infraction to a property owner instead of just the offender.
“We had the issue where we get to a location and there’s numerous people there and nobody wants to take responsibility for what has taken place where we know fireworks have come from say a backyard, or a party, or something like that. So, this allows us to write a municipal infraction to that property owner.”
Vaughn said another change comes along with people no longer being able to use fireworks in multiple business areas in Perry including two main areas with the downtown and along First Street. Vaughn said people can now be cited for using fireworks in those areas, and the fine for the municipal infraction is $250.
