It was an epic Substate Championship game between West Central Valley and Greene County. A game that went into two Overtime periods without a winner. The Rams managed to squeeze out the win in the second Penalty Kick period.
Greene County started the scoring in the first period taking a 1-0 lead at halftime. The Wildcats would respond by scoring a goal from Freshman Kameron Kunkle late in the second period. This would send the game to Overtime tied 1-1.
The Defensive struggle would continue. Neither team managed a goal which led to yet another Overtime. WCV looked like they might’ve had the game-winning goal but it was blown dead before it went through the net. This would lead to a period of Penalty Kicks. Both teams missed two shots but made three. The final round of Penalty Kicks is sudden death. The Rams managed to put one through the net and it gave them the victory.
This will end the season for the Wildcats which overall was a very successful 2021 campaign. Despite having a young roster, WCV managed a 13-7 record.
