Greene County played its Heart of Iowa Activities Conference opening baseball game on Wednesday night in Story City with the Norsemen winning 8-0. R-S scored a run in the first inning, two in the fifth, and five in the sixth.
The Rams were without two starters and several reserves due to Greene County playing in a Class 1A soccer Substate final at the same time in Urbandale. The Rams were suspended by lightning on Tuesday night in Jefferson vs. Nodaway Valley, meaning Wednesday’s contest was the first of the season that counted on the record.
Bryce Stalder pitched the first 5-2/3 innings or the Rams. He allowed seven runs, six earned, on five hits and five walks. The Rams committed two errors and Stalder picked up five strikeouts. Peyton Kinsey pitched 1/3 of an inning, giving up an unearned run on two walks and no hits, and he struck one batter out.
Greene County had just four hits, all singles, by Stalder, Justin Stream, Kole Teeples, and Brad Mason.
The Rams host South Hamilton (Jewell) on Friday at Allensworth Field in Jefferson.
