While the coronavirus pandemic halted a local marathon sale last year in Guthrie County, the event is making a return this year.

White Pole Road Byways Coordinator Tom Smull says the marathon sale has been going on for some time now but last year it was halted due to the pandemic. Smull says people call early in the year to see if the sale is happening.

“A year ago we just decided to totally call it off because it still seemed like ‘early pandemic’ at that time and we just didn’t know what protocols were going to be necessary and things were changing so quickly.”

Smull tells Raccoon Valley Radio this year there are links on the White Pole Road website where people can see current guidance on social distancing. Smull says they are ready to put the event on again, due to the continued interest.

“I knew that people really wanted to do it. It’s one of the most popular events that we do because they were already reaching out to us in January and February and we figured with vaccinations going well that by early June we would be able to do it.”

The White Pole Road Marathon Sale is set to begin on June 5th. More information can be found here.
