University of Northern Iowa freshman Carter Morton from Jefferson finished in second place at the Missouri Valley Conference decathlon as part of the league’s track & field conference meet. Morton, a 2020 Greene County High School grad, is the son of Chad and Deb Morton. Chad is the Rams’ boys’ head track & field coach and Carter’s younger brother Jackson, has qualified in four events for this week’s State Coed Meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

Carter scored 6,440 points for the two day, 10 event competition, and he led the competition after day one on Friday. The second place finish on Saturday was the highest finish in his young career as a decathlete and the Panthers went one, two, three, four, in that event. The runner-up finish earned the rookie his first All-Conference honor.
