Greene County and Nevada played high school soccer against each other on Tuesday with the Cubs pitching two shut outs. The boys played in Nevada and the girls met at Karber Field in Grand Junction.
The boys’ contest was a battle of rated teams with the Cubs ranked fourth in Class 2A and the Rams rated number 12 in 1A. The winner was Nevada by a final score of 5-0. The Cubs are now 11-4 and the Rams’ record is 9-6. Coach Carl Behne told Raccoon Valley Radio the Rams played shorthanded on Tuesday and did not possess the ball enough. “We’ll move on, get healthy, and prep for Substate and State.”
The Cubs won the girls’ contest by a score of 10-0 to improve to 7-5, while the Rams fell to 0-13. Nevada scored its tenth goal with one minute remaining in the first half and the 10-goal “Mercy Rule” stopped the contest at halftime. Tessa Borwick scored three goals for the Cubs, and she now has 12 for the season. The Rams have totaled just three goals all season.
The Greene County girls and boys host East Sac County (Lake View) on Friday at Karber Field in Grand Junction.
