Iowa lawmakers are looking to make it easier for parents to teach their children driver’s education.
State Senator for District 10 Jake Chapman says a bill came up earlier in the session looking to allow all parents the ability to teach their children drivers ed, which is something parents who homeschool can already do. Chapman says it’s something he can get behind.
“Fundamentally, I absolutely agree with that. So, we tried finding a way to make that happen and we did and so it’s now on the Governor’s desk for her consideration as to whether or not that’s good policy.”
Chapman tells Raccoon Valley Radio the bill outlines a close monitoring system to ensure the law is being followed.
“I think there is good measures in place to ensure the law is being followed appropriately and hopefully no one falls through the cracks on that.”
The legislation requires parents to have a valid driver’s license and could eliminate the need for a drivers ed course if the parents chose to do it on their own.
