A Jefferson man was recently sentenced to prison for several forgery incidents.

Greene County Attorney Thomas Laehn tells Raccoon Valley Radio, 32-year-old Juan Guzman pled guilty to two Class D Felonies for forgery and a serious misdemeanor for fourth degree theft. He was sentenced to five years in prison on each of the felony convictions and ten days in the Greene County Jail for the misdemeanor.

The charges stemmed from an investigation by the Jefferson Police Department that began on July 26th. An officer responded to an incident at the Casey’s General Store in Jefferson of an employee confronting Guzman for trying to use a $90 check from an account of a recently deceased individual. Police later found out Guzman used other checks from that same account.

Laehn says Guzman was also ordered to pay a $430 fine and victim restitution. The prison and jail sentences are to run concurrently for a total of five years in prison.
