Greene County FFA recently attended the state convention earlier this month.

FFA Advisor Raelyn Harris says 18 students attended the convention at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines. The event included opening remarks from the national FFA secretary, as well as Governor Kim Reynolds and Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig. Another highlight was two Greene County FFA’ers receiving their State Degrees. This award is the highest honor Iowa can designate an FFA’er. This year, Tieryn Tucker, a 2020 Greene County High School graduate, and senior Kayla Muir earned the award.

There are several standards that have to be met to receive the State Degree. Some of those include being an active member for at least two years, completed at least two years of systematic instruction in agriculture education, completed 25 hours of community service, earned and productively invested at least $1,500 or worked at least 375 hours in a supervised agricultural experience program, among others requirements.

Harris notes that only about five-percent of Iowa FFA members achieve the State Degree.
