By now most adults are eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccine and soon children under the age of 16 could also become eligible.

Guthrie County Public Health Director Jotham Arber says there are studies going on right now to determine when a vaccine could be available for those who are under the age of 16 and the possible timeline could be before the next school year starts in August.

“Coming back in the fall if we are able to offer those vaccinations even if it’s only to 12-18 (years old), the more kids we can get vaccinated the better off we are. So, I think the timeline for those especially school age kids is the fall. That’s what everybody is working towards.”

Arber tells Raccoon Valley Radio that while the studies are taking place no one can know yet what the results of the studies will look like but that is what public health officials are looking at for a timeline.

Currently vaccines are only approved for those who are 16 and older.
