As the 89th Iowa General Assembly continues to move toward drawing to a close, more bills are being discussed.

State Senator for District 10 Jake Chapman says a bill recently passed both the House and the Senate relating to restrictions that would look to cut down on farm investigations. Chapman explains his thoughts on the legislation.

“These folks come in whether it’s a confinement or any other type of agriculture production site where these activists are literally breaking the law, criminally trespassing on property and oftentimes damaging property to come on the property to video record or whatever it may be.”

Chapman tells Raccoon Valley Radio it isn’t just about the concern of people coming onto property but there are also some concerns about cross contamination and lawmakers have looked to increase penalties regarding to this issue.

“It’s not just the matter of the criminal trespass that’s a concern it’s also concerning what kind of biological stuff they are bringing into these facilities. A lot of times these facilities are under certain type(s) of regulations when it comes to cleanliness.”

The bill is waiting for Governor Kim Reynolds’ signature to become law.
