Greene County track & field senior Brooklyn Olson is the lone female for the Rams to qualify for the 2021 Drake Relays. She’ll be in the high school girls’ shot put this Thursday at 1:30 p.m. When asked how it felt making it to the Drake Relays for the first time, she said, “It’s very exciting! I wasn’t sure I’d even have a senior season, so qualifying for this meet is very exciting.” There were no 2020 Drake Relays due to COVID-19, and even this year, spectator season is being limited, and other precautions are being taken.
After Drake, the Rams still have three weeks of the regular season before going to Manson on May 13 for a Coed State Qualifying Meet. Olson talked about what she thinks is her best route to keep improving and accomplish some of her goals in addition to Drake Relays qualification. “I just think I need to work on more drills to get the repetition in and get the footwork down, and keep doing the same things over and over until I get it how I like it, and maybe it’ll fly.”
The Rams also have four boys’ events competing Thursday at Drake Stadium. Bryce Stalder is long jumping, Nathan Black will be high jumping, Jackson Morton will run the 110 meter high hurdles, and those three will combine with Jaxon Warnke in the 110 meter shuttle hurdle relay.
