Carter Morton, a 2020 Greene County High School graduate, finished in fourth place in a field of 19 decathletes at Indiana State U. in Terra Haute late last week. Morton completed his first career decathlon with 6,148 points, which scored five points for the Panthers, who finished second in the team race among 14 squads.

Morton’s best finish among his 10 events was a first place performance in the high jump at 6′ 5″. He was second in the in the 110 meter high hurdles in 15.36 seconds, and third in the javelin throw at 148′ 0″ and that’s one of the events he had never done in competition before.

The first five place winners in Indiana State’s Gibson Invitational Decathlon are freshmen.
