With clear skies, starting temperatures in the mid 50’s, and winds higher than most would like, Greene County took part in the Carroll Coed Relays on Monday night at Carroll Athletic Field. The Greene County boys finished in third place and the girls were fourth.
Greene County won three boys’ events and two on the girls’ side. The girls were first in the 800 meter sprint medley relay in 2:02.22 with Annie Twillie, Alexa Peters, Olivia Shannon, and Natalie Heupel, and Brooklynn Olson won the shot put with a best toss of 37′ 6-3/4″. The Rams won the boys’ shuttle hurdle relay in a season best 1:03.62 with Richard Daugherty, Bryce Stalder, Jaxon Warnke, and Jackson Morton. They were first in the 800 sprint medley relay in 1:41.84 with Daniel Rivera, Nathan Wailes, Daugherty, and Warnke. The 4 x 100 meter relay was a winner in 46.32 with Rivera, Stalder, Daugherty, and Warnke.
The Rams have one more chance to qualify or solidify positions for the 2021 Drake Relays at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. Both Greene County teams compete on Thursday with the girls in Le Grand at the East Marshall meet, while the boys go to Des Moines and Saydel High School. Thursday night is the last night to submit performances to be considered for Drake. All high school events at the Drake Relays this year will be on Thursday, April 22. Lists of qualifiers are expected this Friday, April 16. The week began with several events from Greene County athletes in contention.
Paton-Churdan had its boys at Gowrie Monday for the Southeast Valley Invitational in Class B. The top finish for the Rockets came in the discus throw from junior Bradyn Smith. He was second in 107′ 3″. Senior Forest Thompson was third in the 400 meter dash in 1:04.50.
