U.S. Congressional members recently visited the immigration camps along the southern border with Mexico, due to the large population of illegal immigrants coming into the U.S.
Senator Charles Grassley was one of the individuals that made the trip and when asked what the major difference was between the Trump Administration and the current Biden Administration, Grassley says it was after a discussion between the border patrol and the Biden transition team before President Joe Biden was officially sworn in.
“They (border patrol) said, ‘Keep the Trump three or four initiatives he had in place.’ They (the Biden transition team) didn’t follow that advice. So it seems to me that that is the major difference. We’re having this problem now because Trump had it under control – not 100-percent under control, but under control compared to now – we’re having more people come in now than we’ve seen in 20 years.”
Grassley says the best way to prevent illegal immigrants from crossing the border is to continue to build the fence that former President Trump started in the previous administration. However, he tells Raccoon Valley Radio that when Biden became President, all construction of the fence ceased.
“If they were smart, they would at least finish what we appropriated money for. But on January 20th (inauguration day) they stopped everything. Probably costing the taxpayers a lot of money because I’ll bet there’s a penalty for changing the contract and still not getting anything for it.”
Grassley notes that the Executive Branch is the one that’s in charge of handling the situation at the border and not the Legislative Branch.
