Greene County’s high school girls and boys track & field teams went to Van Meter Thursday night. It was the second meet in 48 hours for the Rams and both girls’ head coach Derek Merk and boys’ head coach Chad Morton had most of their runners in fewer events than normal. The Rams have had a heavy early season schedule with four meets in 11 days. Most years would have seen at least one weather-related postponement early on, but that’s not been the case for the Rams in 2021.

Both teams were second to last in the standings, but both won events. Senior Brianna Osterson won the long jump with a season best effort of 16′ 5″, and Osterson anchored the winning 4 x 100 meter relay in 54.49 seconds with sophomores Olivia Shannon and Natalie Heupel and senior Makala Kafer on the first three legs.

First place finishes for the boys included junior Jackson Morton winning the 110 meter high hurdles sin 15.33 seconds. The time was his personal best, and also the best in the nine years the Rams have competed as Greene County. Moron, junior Bryce Stalder, sophomore Richard Daugherty, and senior Jaxon Warnke won the 4 x 200 meter relay in 1:35.51, and junior Daniel Rivera, Stalder, Daugherty, and Warnke teamed up to win the 4 x 100 in 45.58 seconds.
