Next week is ISU Extension and Outreach Week and Greene County Extension has several activities planned.

The week will kick-off with a 4-H $15 Challenge on Monday. Current Greene County 4-H’ers will tour ShineOn Design at 2pm, purchase an outfit for $15 or less. Then 4-H’ers will head to the Extension office in Jefferson where volunteers will those 4-H’ers write a report that can be used during this year’s county fair. The event is from 2-3:30pm.

Tuesday’s activity is an adult sewing workshop from 6-8pm at the Extension office. Participants will learn to sew a rope basket and Extension Office Coordinator Cindy Adamson will lead the class. It is free but registrations are required as space is limited.

Extension Director Lori Mannel describes Wednesday’s event as a self-guided tour with a StoryWalk. She says the free tour is based on the book “Bea’s Bees.”

“You’re going to go around the Bell Tower Square to some different businesses, (where) there will be bright yellow poster board. Some of the businesses will be having activities that you can go into their store during normal business hours. For the first 50 families (to complete the activity) will receive a free jar of honey from Scranton-based business Bee Mindful.”

Mannel adds, this event runs through mid-May and is free and open to the public.

Then on Thursday from noon-1pm will be a free workshop on “Creating Your Pond Oasis” where representatives from Midwest Aquatics and Landscaping will teach you how to design a water feature for your lawn. Finally on Friday is another free program from 11am-1pm with “Ask the Experts-Ag Professionals.” This come-and-go event will have experts on hand to discuss farm-related topics as well as starting or expanding a business.
