The weather was good enough for the Greene County High School golf teams to play on Thursday, but the weather was far from good. Wet, windy, and cool conditions didn’t stop the girls from hosting against Perry, Des Moine Christian, and Gilbert at The Hill east of Grand Junction and the boys played at the Perry Country Club Course vs. DMC and the Blue Jays.
Coach Heath Telleen’s boys finished in second place behind Des Moines Christian. The Lions shot 169 with 199 by the Rams and 242 for the Blue Jays. Joe Carey, a junior at Paton-Churdan, shot 41 for nine holes and was runner-up medalist for the meet. Sawyer Schiltz shot 47 and Caden Telleen tallied a 54. Jack Hansen, Nathan Behne, and Kole Teeples all shot 57.
Coach Josh Carlson’s girls’ squad had a nine hole total of 257, six shot better than their opener earlier this week. Alex Miller shot 59 with Brianna Habben at 62, Josey Weaver 67, and Eliot Schilling 69.Ballard easily won the quad with 178, followed by DMC 213, and then the Rams. Perry only had three golfers, not enough for a team score. Ballard freshman Eden Lorbach shot 38 to easily take medalist honors.
