Fire crews responded to a house fire south of Jefferson Wednesday afternoon.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams says a deputy, the Jeffferson, Grand Junction and Scranton fire departments and Greene County Ambulance responded to the blaze at 1407 270th Street at 12:26pm. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio when they arrived on scene, the two-story home was fully engulfed in flames and the residence collapsed within five minutes on being on scene.

Williams notes a passerby reported the fire and the homeowner and their family was not home during the incident and they lost everything in the fire. He says Red Cross was contacted and is working with the family. The cause remains under investigation by the homeowner’s insurance company. No one was hurt in the incident.

According to the Greene County Assessor’s real estate webpage, the property owner is Deborah Monthei.
