Greene County had its first-ever mass vaccination clinic Wednesday.
Greene County Public Health held the COVID-19 vaccine clinic at Wild Rose Casino and Resort in Jefferson and administered several first doses of the Pfizer vaccine. Public Health Director Becky Wolf was able to receive 1,170 doses of the vaccine from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention federal program and opened up the registration to anyone 16 and older. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio while the clinic was a success, another one isn’t going to happen soon.
“This is kind of like a one-time thing that I requested from the state, so that we could get a lot of people done. But that doesn’t guarantee that we’re going to get big amounts (of vaccine doses) in future weeks until they start opening up more of the vaccine availability coming down the pike.”
Wolf points out one reason why the clinic was as successful as it was is because of the deployment of the Medical Reserve Corps., which is made up of community volunteers that performed different duties.
“We’re just really excited that we can provide these opportunities for the volunteers. I think people have sat around and they’ve felt like they really couldn’t help anywhere and this is giving them the avenue to really make a difference and help us.”
Greene County Emergency Management Director Dennis Morlan says Wolf is a true professional and her staff have done a tremendous job of dealing with the pandemic for over a year.
