While the current permitless carry legislation is on its way to Governor Kim Reynolds, there is another piece of legislation that contains protections for gun manufacturers.

Iowa House Representative for District 19 Carter Nordman says gun manufacturers should not have to worry about possible liability if someone were to commit a violent act with one of their products.

“If somebody walks in and does a heinous act with a weapon, that’s not the gun manufacturer’s liability. They shouldn’t have to worry about being sued for someone doing a heinous act with a weapon. This does not change the fact that if a manufacturer builds a gun and there is a default and someone is harmed because of that, that does not relieve them of liability for that.”

The bill, House File 621, would protect gun manufacturers from action against them in the event their products are used for criminal acts or unlawful use. House File 621 was passed by the House earlier this month by a vote of 60-17 and by the Senate last week with a vote of 31-17.
