A fundraiser is being held this morning to benefit the food pantries in Guthrie County.

Guthrie County Farm Bureau is hosting the 4th Annual Grocery Cart Races at Hometown Foods in Guthrie Center starting around 7:45am. Farm Bureau President Jim Calvert says 11 teams have signed up as he explains the details of the race.

“We have teams come in and they go around the grocery store and pick out items, we have a designated theme and they collect food. The team that stays under $50 is what the goal is (and) every team takes a quiz about agriculture. So it’s kind of a two-part deal.”

Calvert notes first and second place prizes will be awarded and the teams will typically purchase the food items that they collected and then those items will be donated to the local food pantries in Guthrie County. Calvert adds, Guthrie County Farm Bureau will match the money that was raised from the event. This fundraiser coincides with National Agriculture Week this week.
