With some needed rainfall, more people in Greene County may start open burning during the spring season.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams encourages those wanting to do a controlled burn in the rural portions of the county, to first call the law enforcement center to let them know about that. He says by doing this, you can avoid possible penalties.

“The county does have an ordinance to where if you don’t call it in you are fined. So please just call them in so we don’t have to do that or waste volunteer firemen’s time to respond to a fire that is a controlled burn.”

Williams suggests giving dispatch your name and address of where the controlled burn will be. He adds, this will help in case what you are burning gets out of control, fire departments know where to go.
