Greene County found out last week they are assigned to Class 2A District 8 for the 2021 and ’22 high school football seasons. The Rams are grouped with Clarinda, Clarke (Osceola), Des Moines Christian, Red Oak, and Shenandoah. There are 48 programs in 2A with 32 making the playoffs. Class 2A programs will also play three non-district games for an eight game regular season schedule.

Cade Duncan begins his third season heading the Rams. He talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about what has been released about the playoff format, and what he hopes to find out soon. “We’ll have 32 qualifiers and there are eight districts, so it’s already been decided that the top four in each district will be your playoff qualifiers. Hopefully soon, we’ll find out what that looks like for the playoffs in terms of the brackets. Are you going to get paired up with another district and kind of have “sister” districts like they used to do a few years ago? As you move along in the playoffs, is there going to be an RPI (Ratings Percentage Index) factor?”

The coach is hoping to find out more information this week. Schools are now putting together their priority lists for the teams they would like to face in the three non-district games, and submitting those lists to the Iowa High School Athletic Association. Coach Duncan is hoping to have a finalized varsity schedule mid to late April.
