Several Greene County High School students performed well at the Iowa High School Speech Association State Individual contest.
Speech Coach Kelley Gray says they traveled to Perry High School last week and six students earned a Division I-rating for their performances. The students that received straight Division I-ratings from the three judges included Ave Schilling in acting, Blake Kaufman with reviewing, Esther Van Horn with prose and Madison Hall in solo musical theater. Josey Weaver in prose and Makala Kafer in radio broadcasting each earned an overall Division I-rating.
Additionally, three students earned Division II-ratings, and they included Maddie Truitt for prose, Eliot Schilling for storytelling and prose and Allee Hinote for poetry.
According to IHSSA, all-state nominations will be announced on March 24th. Due to the pandemic, there will not be an all-state festival, but recognition will still be awarded.
