A Jefferson man was recently sentenced to probation for a September incident.

According to court documents, 20-year-old Nicholas Weber pled guilty to an amended charge of an aggravated misdemeanor for his second offense of possession of marijuana. His two year prison sentence was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. The probation sentence is to run consecutively with three other probation revocation charges, which includes serving 180 days in a residential correctional facility and remaining on probation.

The charge stemmed from a September 17th incident. A police officer tried to conduct a traffic stop on Highway 30 and M Avenue, due to the officer knowing the driver had a suspended license. The vehicle didn’t stop and the officer saw a backpack had been thrown from the vehicle into a ditch. Authorities then conducted a probable cause search of the backpack due to a strong smell of marijuana. A second suspect, 22-year-old Dalton Weber of Scranton was also charged and has not been sentenced yet.

As per the plea agreement, Nicholas Weber’s original charge of a felony for failure to affix a drug tax stamp was dismissed.
