With the first funnel week passing in the Iowa Capitol, Iowa State Senator for District 10 Jake Chapman outlines legislation that is still viable for the rest of the session.
Chapman says the funnel deadlines, which help legislative sessions move in a timely manner, can see bills fall off the table and become “dead” for the rest of the legislative session. Chapman says he has looked through the list of bills he felt were priorities that made it through the first funnel deadline including traffic cameras.
“An issue that’s been brought up for years is the issue of traffic cameras. I was very happy to see that the bill was once again introduced and we have a new set of legislators in the house and the senate and I’m optimistic perhaps this could be the year that we could get rid of these scam cams.”
Chapman tells Raccoon Valley Radio other important topics include things like the funding of law enforcement in counties and cities across Iowa also made it through the first funnel deadline.
“It’s just really unfortunate over the last year the disrespect our law enforcement has gotten. When I was on the campaign trail I made the comment that if cities and counties decide to defund our law enforcement then the State will defund them and there’s a bill to do just that.”
Chapman notes the inheritance tax bill also made it through the first funnel as well.
