Additional information about the alleged bank robbery in Scranton has been released.

According to court documents, Peoples Bank employees called 911 to report that they were robbed at 10:47am on February 25th. Five employees said a male walked in, demanded money to be placed in his backpack. The employees said the suspect had a handgun and left with about $20,000 cash.

Three minutes prior to the robbery, a fake accident call was made by a female to law enforcement. Later on that same day, law enforcement received an anonymous call saying that the suspect in the robbery looked like 27-year-old Zachary Wailes.

Sheriff Jack Williams obtained video from a Casey’s General Store robbery in Lohrville from December 2019, where that suspect was identified as Wailes.

Later on that day, Courtney Loew contacted the Greene County Sheriff’s Office saying she had information regarding the robbery. Law enforcement visited her at the Carroll County Jail, where she was because she had been arrested for an unrelated incident in Carroll County. Loew told  investigators that she made the fake accident phone call prior to the robbery. She said she was with 26-year-old Tyler Mattingly, who received a phone call from Wailes as they were headed to Des Moines.

Tyler Mattingly

Wailes had told Loew to make the fake accident phone call, and didn’t think anything about it. Later that day, her and Mattingly were headed back to Carroll where he told her about the robbery and she had overheard him talking on the phone to Wailes about the incident, including the getaway vehicle. Mattingly also told Loew to make the fake accident call as well.

After Wailes was arrested, a search warrant was executed for his phone, which contained messages between him and Mattingly about the robbery, destroying the cell phone evidence and changing cell phone numbers.

Following the investigation, Wailes was charged with a Class B Felony for first degree robbery and a Class C Felony for first degree theft. Mattingly was charged with a Class B Felony for aiding and abetting robbery in the first degree and a Class C Felony for first degree theft.

The investigation is ongoing at this time. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
