
The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
The Board approved the maximum property tax dollars for the 2022 fiscal year, following a public hearing. The approved resolution included general services not to exceed $4,583,055 for a 2.16-percent increase, and rural services not to exceed $1,859,792 for a 5.25-percent increase.
Additionally, the Board approved the County Recorder’s report of fees for February for $14,763 and they set the public hearing for the proposed 2022 fiscal year budget for March 22nd at 9am. The Board also appointed Greene County Veterans Affairs Director Michael Bierl as the general assistance coordinator.
The Board discussed the COVID-19 countywide mask mandate. At this time, the Board will continue the mandate until it expires on March 31st. They also heard an update from Jefferson City Administrator Mike Palmer. He talked about installing landscape items and a welcome sign as the final portions to the East Lincoln Way corridor project, and selling the city-owned building at 205 North Wilson Avenue to a business. He also talked about resurfacing two alleyways this year, by the Companion Veterinary Clinic and the White House Apartments, next to the law enforcement center.
Finally, the Board held a discussion about purchasing a property for the secondary roads department. County Engineer Wade Weiss said the current storage facility in Scranton is at its end of life and he needs a new facility. He found the former Alliant Energy building on north Highway 30 in Jefferson, next to Sparky’s One Stop gas station. He said the offer price is $582,000 and was going to pay it in installments over three fiscal years. The Board agreed to pursue the matter.
