The Greene County Middle School will feature two plays later this week.

Director Tammy Brophy says the sixth grade play will be “A History of Messy Rooms” by Wade Bradford. It is the story of Jamie, played by Mason Lehman, who has a messy room and refuses to clean it up. Jamie’s mom, played by Makenna Ebersol, tells Jamie about his ancestors and they discover the first mom who uttered the phrase, “Because I said so.” The cast and crew involves nine students and the performance is at 6pm on Friday.

The seventh and eighth grade play is “Montana Jones and the Gymnasium of Doom” by Wade Bradford. This story also features Jamie, who is played by Hailey Carman and the character Dwayne, played by Allison Fields, are discussing how boring life is as an eighth graders. However, whenever they say the word “adventure” Montana Jones appears, who is played by Aden Bardole. They create adventures in school to find the ultimate treasure. That performance is at 7:30pm on Friday.

Brophy says the auditorium will be at half capacity because of the pandemic, and the cost to attend is a free-will donation. Proceeds are used to purchase scripts, props and costumes. Face masks are required for those watching the performances, and the audience for the 6pm show are asked to arrive no sooner than 5:30 and for the second show, no sooner than 7pm. 

Brophy notes that she wanted to do plays this year because the students always enjoy performing. In a year with remote learning, COVID-19 outbreaks and restrictions, having plays is a way for students to express themselves and show their creativity.
