The Greene County School Board is going to hold a public hearing regarding next school year’s calendar.

The Board discussed two options that were presented by Superintendent Tim Christensen at their February meeting. One option was going back to having weekly early dismissals on Wednesdays, which were discontinued this year. The other option was having a monthly full professional development day, where there would be no school for students. Christensen describes the results when staff were surveyed.

“I did put that out to staff. Sixty-two-percent of the staff compared to 38(-percent) liked the full day professional development, essentially once a month.”

That proposed calendar also has the first day of school on August 23rd, with winter break from December 22nd-January 2nd, spring break from March 14th-18th and the final day of school for pre-kindergarten through 8th grade would be May 20th and for high school students on May 27th.

The public hearing will be held during the School Board’s meeting this Wednesday at 6:30pm, which is a week earlier than normal, due to spring break happening next week. The proposed calendar that the Board will consider approving can be found below.
